Stack Events lets you quickly bulk-import students using a simple CSV file. Whether you’re on boarding an entire program at the start of the year or just adding a few new students, this guide will walk you through the safest and most efficient way to import users.
What This Article Covers
Required CSV format
How to upload and preview your file
When to use the “Wipe Previous Users” option
Common issues and how to fix them
What students do after being imported
Step 1 | Format Your CSV
Your CSV file must follow this exact format with two columns only:

Its Important to know:
Column names must be student_id and email
Each student must have a unique student ID
Emails must be valid and school-issued
You can download our Sample CSV as a template.
We recommend creating the file using:
Google Sheets (free, easiest)
Any spreadsheet editor that exports as a CSV
Step 2 | Upload Your File
To access the import tool:
Or open the Dev Menu → Manage Users → Import Users
And upload your CSV in the field provided. Stack will display a preview of the first 10 rows so you can confirm everything looks correct.
Step 3 | Choose Whether to Wipe Previous Users
You’ll see a checkbox labeled:
“Wipe all previous imported users”
This option deletes all previously imported students before adding your new list.
Use this option if:
You’re starting a new school year or new semester
You want to completely replace your entire list of imported students
You want to remove old data and start fresh
Leave it unchecked if:
You’re adding new students to your existing list
You only need to update or expand your roster
You want to preserve current imports
⚠️ Dangers of Wiping All Users
If you select Wipe all previous imported users, then:
Every previously imported student will lose access
Any student not included in the new CSV will see:“Email not found” during signup
Students cannot log in or create accounts unless they appear in the newly imported file
Use this option only when you are intentionally resetting your user list (typically once per school year).
Step 4 | Preview & Import
After uploading your CSV:
Review the preview table
Confirm every row has a valid student_id and email
Verify there are no blank cells or formatting errors
If everything looks correct, click Import All to finalize.
After Importing
Once students have been imported, they can go to your instance URL and sign up using the email address you entered in the CSV.
If a student cannot sign up:
Make sure their email appears in your CSV file
Confirm you imported the correct version of the file
Double-check you’re using your correct Stack Events subdomain
If problems persist, you can re-upload your CSV or Contact Support for help.
